Its wet and windy, Brgggggh

Well it is very encouraging to see how many yachtsmen and people in the yachting industry are protecting there boats this winter. we have had a surge of orders and bizzarley most of them have come from our surroundings, Southampton, South Coast and the solent. Is there a weather system we are not aware of arriving? or are these people so keen about their sailing yachts and power boats that they just wish for them to remaian in tip top condition. Marlow ropes are keeping them safe.

Well done all and thank you for your business

Marlow Ropes Official Supplier of The British Racing Team, follow the progress and practice of Team FletcherSIgn…

That pretty much sums out how we got on at the 2014 ISAF World Championships, but there is a story with it…
It was a difficult start to the week for us; after just 3 races we had picked up a UFD (over the line disqualification) and also failed to finish another race after breaking 2 tiller extensions within about 40 secs of one another. When that second tiller broke, we both knew at that point it was the end of our hopes of not just winning or medalling at the worlds but simply gold fleet. It was quite hard at that point to get motivated again to get back on the water and carry on racing. But we did not want to just give up, so we kept fighting.
The next race we got it wrong again, this time someone crashed into us at the top mark. We got rafted up and were then back in last. Things really were not going our way but again we had a chat, waited on the water for the wind to play ball before getting one last race in the qualifying series.
At last we got our acts together, started well, raced well, went fast and pulled in a 2nd. We had quite the score card at that point, UFD,20,DNF,33,2… Safe to say letters are not ideal.
Bronze fleet. To race or not to race was the question. We have seen this happen to top teams before and most of the time they just go home. After a long chat, we decided we wanted to go and race, learn what we could and also go out to enjoy racing. After a hard 4 days we were not exactly having the best fun, but we were not alone.
We set ourselves a target to win every race, which is quite a big goal even in bronze fleet. We were not the only casualty of a tricky qualifying series, so we were joined by some of our friends that were also normally in gold fleet. As it turned out bronze fleet got the best of the conditions, with some awesome racing in the harbour just in front of a packed grandstand. Over the next 7 races we won 6, only coming 2nd in the other. Not quite achieving our goal, but quite good and we had a good time, sailing well together. It was much nicer racing, away from the shore, in our own world, striving towards a gold medal no matter what was thrown at us.
There is no doubt we made some big errors, which we must learn from to come back stronger and compete once again at the top. We have a solid plan in place with our coach and after what was and potentially still was our best year medalling at the Europeans, Test event, Palma World cup and winning the Delta Lloyd Regatta. But its not over yet! We still have 3 regattas left to go; 2 in Rio including the South American’s and Intergalactic’s followed by the World Cup sailing Final in Abu Dhabi.
Right now we are chilling out, having a little holiday before getting back into training on friday.

BLOODHOUND SSC – 1000mph Car!

Marlow are proud to be one of the product sponsors working to develop the special ropes required to safely slow the car down with the braking parachutes. Everything about this project is extreme engineering and it’s inspiring to be a part of it. As Andrew Green (the driver) said “getting to 1000 mph is optional, slowing down afterwards is compulsory!”

Winter is coming in Europe so be prepared

The weather is changing and although we love to sell new ropes we also think you should be prepared. Whilst it is a requirement to have mooring ropes exposed to the elements the running rigging aboard yachts does not need to be subjected to elevated levels of exposure. We always suggest to customers if possible to add a Flemish eye so that you can attach mouse lines easily and remove the running rigging for the winter months. The long exposure to wind, rain and UV during the winter months is as detrimental to your running rigging as the sailing season, if not more so.Spend a day organizing, washing and stowing as this will more than double the life of your cordage.
Enjoy

Marlow Ropes Award boost for Chiavarini

Having just returned from the Santander ISAF Sailing World Championships with his best ever result from a senior World Championship, Lorenzo Chiavarini has been handed an extra boost to his flourishing campaign after been awarded the coveted Marlow Ropes Award. The Marlow Ropes Award was introduced in 2002 with the aim of rewarding Britain’s most promising young sailors for their determination, focus and talent. The 20-year-old from Argyll has had an impressive year in the Laser class despite suffering from a season-threatening wrist break back in March. With the help of the British Sailing Team sport science staff, the Plymouth University student was soon back out on the water and wasted no time in claiming an emphatic victory at the Under 21 Laser European Championships in Torbole, Italy, by a staggering 24-point margin. Chiavarini then followed this up with back to back victories by claiming the under 21 Laser World Championship title in Douarnenez, France. With a spring in his step and as one of the British Sailing Team’s most promising young talents, the under 21 Laser World and European Champion scored his best result at a senior World Championship – finishing 11th in Santander– narrowly missing the cut for the medal race by just one point. “It is a very prestigious award to win within the British Sailing Team and it is a fantastic achievement after such a great year,” said Chiavarini. The Marlow award entitles the British Sailing Team Podium Potential sailor to free Marlow rope for a year, which Chiavarini says will be invaluable as he prepares for another successful season. “It is fantastic to have the Marlow team behind for next year’s racing. The Laser is a one design class so having the best rope and equipment can really make the difference.” Barrie Edgington, British Sailing Team Podium Potential Squad Manager, commented: “Lorenzo has had a great season. To win back to back gold medals at a U21 World and European Championships is in itself a fantastic achievement, but to do it in a season in which he suffered a relatively serious injury shows real character, so hats off to him for bouncing back.” “His performance at the ISAF Sailing World Championships was also one to be admired, he sailed a great series and to finish only one point of the medal race was a great way to round off a stellar season for Lorenzo in the Laser class.” “The Marlow Ropes Award is a prestigious award within the British camp with past winners going on to achieve great success in the sport of sailing. I am looking forward to seeing Lorenzo continue to develop and fully utilise the help and support from Marlow Ropes in order to help him achieve his goals in 2015.” VIDEO: Marlow Ropes Award boost for British sailor Chiavarini For further information on Marlow Ropes including the oldest products and technical information visit www.marlowropes.com.
