1930-built classic motor yacht \u2018MY Alicia\u2019 has been restored to her former glory after a three-year turnkey project carried out by SMS Group in Southampton.<\/p>\n
Major structural work on the 50m long vessel included building a new hull from the aft machinery bulkhead forward and a new circa 25t aluminium superstructure in partnership with SMS\u2019 sister company the Wight Shipyard.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the British owner of MY Alicia, Peter Morton, CEO of The SMS Group, commented: \u201cAs a company we are genuinely thrilled to have had the inspiration and support of another truly exceptional British businessman; and whilst the project has been challenging the end result is simply outstanding.\u00a0\u00a0MY Alicia is unquestionably beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Defoe-built<\/p>\n
With a top speed of 14 knots, MY Alicia was built in the US by Defoe in 1930 and launched as MY Janidore (the ex RS Eden). She was one of eight yachts to be built by the East Coast yard.<\/p>\n
Chris Norman, SMS\u2019 MD, explained SMS \u201cmanaged to install an equipment package suited to a 1000t vessel into a 400t one; a tremendous amount of thought has gone into the machinery space, pipe verticals (due to limited headroom) and the ships tank configuration.\u201d<\/p>\n
MY Alicia will undertake her commissioning and sea trials in and around the Solent before partaking in the 20th Les Voiles de Saint Tropez in September.<\/p>\n
In recent years, SMS has completed refits for Sir Charles Dunstone on MY Shemara and Lord Sugar on MY Lady A.<\/p>\n
